Hot! Rangers: A Letter Saying “Goodbye”

After a grueling eight months, the journey has ended six wins short of the ultimate prize. ALl year, but especially since the start of the playoffs, the Rangers have been the most significant relationship in my life — SORRY Mom, Dad, Lindsay, Jordan, and friends — and it is now time for me to say goodbye. Thank you family, friends, bloggers, and random strangers for reading my articles throughout the playoffs. I will be writing updates, rumors, and speculation as the offseason progresses, as well as shifting my focus to the Yankees and Jets. Thank you again and enjoy my last post on the 2011-2012 New York Rangers…

Dear Rangers,

This is a letter of thanks, a letter of reflection. Over the past eight months, you have all been a big part of my life: a journey that started in Europe and ended in Newark. We laughed when we saw the close ups of your personal lives during HBO’s 24/7, we celebrated when we won epic games in the final seconds, and we cried when a season destined for greatness ended too soon. Despite not winning a trophy, you guys won over the hearts of millions of New Yorkers. You proved to the world that there aren’t many things that beat persistence and nothing can beat you when you have a heart of a champion. Yes, the Devils may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over.

As we turn the page on the 2011-2012 season, we see foreshadowing for future chapters: The emergence of Chris Kreider and Ryan McDonaugh, the true grit of John Tortorella, the best goalie on this planet, and the will to continue conducting business “The Right Way.” Certainly, we will certainly see changes in the 2012-2013 Rangers, but the nucleus will remain intact. There is plenty to look forward to in Ranger-land and everyone knows it.

As Billy Joel famously said, “Life is a series of hellos and goodbye, I’m afraid it’s time for goodbye again.” Goodbye for now, Rangers…goodbye for now.
