Hot! An Instant Classic: Rangers Game 3 Summary and Game 4 Preview

For those that complain that hockey “isn’t exciting”, “it’s boring”, or any other lame excuse you may have, please do the following: Watch this game in its entirety (if you haven’t done so already). If you still feel the same way about hockey after doing so, please send a private message to @brillythekid on Twitter. If you can convince me why this is the case, I will send you $100.00 on PayPal. 1) The Will to WIN. I couldn’t imagine playing in a game like that – I need a few days off just from watching. With that said, a victory like this shouldn’t come as a surprise…at all. All year this Rangers team has showed that they want to win more than anyone else. There is a feeling of responsibility among the entire team and they are a family. There was an opportunity to shake this team up at the trade deadline, but Glenn Sather wasn’t willing to sacrifice the future for an overpaid player. Genuis.

2) Scott Gomez.  A few years ago the Rangers traded Scott Gomez to the Canadians for Ryan McDonaugh and Chris Higgins. Chris Higgins ended up being traded for Brandon Prust so the trade was essentially Gomez for McDonaugh and Prust. Could that go down as one of the best trades in NHL History? Oh yes. McDonaugh played 53 minutes last night and has emerged as one of the best young prospects in the game. Look at this chart of his shifts yesterday…it’s insane:

3) Warriors. Just look at some of the minutes logged last night by our boys in blue…

McDonaugh – 53:21

Staal: 49:30

Del Zotto: 43:37

Callahan: 41:52

4) Gabby! Gabby! Gabby! Will that be the goal that turns the playoffs around for Marian? I sure hope so.

5) 4…3….2…1…OVIE SUCKS! OVIE SUCKS! (sorry, I’m going to keep on doing that)

6) Hank the Tank. Best goalie in the NHL? You bet your ass he is.

7) Momentum. Everyone says that there is no momentum in the playoffs, but how can there not be here? Winning a game like that HAS to raise the Rangers up a notch and knock those Capitals down one, no?

8 ) Cycle. Just as I’ve been saying, keep cycling that puck! (SEE: Last goal of the game)

9) Five-Holtby. Told ya so…

3 Stars:

1) Ryan McDonaugh

2) Henrik Lundqvist

3) Marc Staal

Game 4 Predictions:

How can this game possibly physical? Both teams have to be dead, but that’s the playoffs. It would really behoove the Rangers to knock out the Capitals now when they have the chance. If they can (please please please!) win this series in 5, they can get in some rest before their series before the Devils/Flyers. When you have a sleeping giant, you have to go in for the kill – the Rangers learned that lesson last round and I think they will be ready..

Rangers 3, Capitals 1.
